About 18 months ago I lost my mother, mainly due to osteoporosis, which caused her spine to collapse. As a result of this, I was inspired to offer Chair Yoga classes to senior citizens in my local community. Initially, this was a "passion project" which I was not anticipating turning into my largest revenue earner.
I started with just one student, who continued to come weekly and, to be honest, was the reason I kept going with the classes, even though I was initially running at a loss. After a few weeks she was joined by a couple more people and now we are up to a full class, with a wait-list.
Now, over a year on and as well as the regular weekly Seniors Chair Yoga class, I have been invited to teach classes at local residential care homes and day centres as well as providing private sessions to elderly people in their own homes, who are not able to travel to the group classes.
This has resulted in me doubling my annual income - in particular over those 'lean periods' of summer and Christmas holidays, when yoga classes become notoriously difficult to fill!
I am now happy to share my experiences with other yoga teachers to enable them to add Seniors Chair Yoga to their repertoire of classes.
In this 5 hour workshop, you will experience 2 classes as taught to my Seniors students as well as learn tips for marketing your classes and ensuring a safe environment for your students. You will have the opportunity to develop your own teaching practice and deliver this to the group.
This course will entitle you to 8 hours of Yoga Alliance (USA) Continuing Education 5 Contact hours plus 3 follow-up non-contact hours
